ABIGAIL HUMPHRIES ART

My practice centres on sand and acrylic, a material language I have refined over the past two decades into richly textured, large-scale works that blur the line between painting and sculpture.
I am drawn to sand for its associations with time, impermanence, and fragility. Through it, I build layered, geological surfaces - enduring forms that hold fleeting moments. My near life-size, featureless figures emerge symbiotically from these textures, resisting fixed identity and instead acting as vessels for universal feeling, memory, and reflection. While narrative underpins the work, it remains open-ended: subtle shifts in body language, pose, and light invite viewers to bring their own experiences, creating space for empathy and quiet connection.
